Odisha is a state which having an ancient tradition and culture of making beautiful splendid art pieces by hands. The artists Odisha have long been presenting their beautiful inspiring master art pieces to all over the world. There are a lot of handicrafts that have been running as the life force in the cultural land of Odisha (Orissa). Some of the arts are - Patta Chitra art, textile art (Sambalpuri Cotton Saree, maniabandhi Saree), Different Sand Art, Metal Work like Silver Filigree and others, Stone Carving and making Puppets and Masks etc are some art forms of Odisha.

Legends of the Hindu God Lord Krishna and others are mainly depicted on a specially treated cloth known as Patta and the painting is called pattachitra.  This art form developed over many years, this art form has helped a distinct school of painting to evolve in Odisha. Having its origin in Sanskrit language, the word Patta Chitra literally means a painted piece of cloth. This ritualistic art observes a fine blend of sophisticated art and folk element in the form of rich colors and spiritual themes. The skilled hands of the talented and skillful artisans make an magic and produce some very beautiful art pieces. These art pieces are carried back home by pilgrims to Puri as precious mementos. Practiced widely in Raghurajpur and Dandshahi villages at the outskirts of Puri, these art of pattachitra have become synonymous to the place.

Like pattachitra another famous art of Odisha (Orissa) is Sand arts. This art also based at Puri. That means carving a sand sculpture with just clean and fine-grained sand mixed with water is called sand art. Attractive sculptures are created out of this sand by the Odia artists who are very much liked by people. This art is very eye catching and splendidly beautiful, this art form has gained immense popularity with the development of tourism in Puri.

There is another type of art in Odisha present named as Trakashi art or silver art. The artists of Odisha mainly found in Cuttack district have also invariably contributed to enrich their tradition in the form of this Silver Filigree or Trakashi art. Owing its popularity to this art form only the silverware or Trakashi of Odisha is very widely known in all over the world and people very much like this kinds of art.
